In
this years annual Australian wild card play-offs, the two spaces for
the home players have been decided. In the mens it was 19 year old
Jordan Thompson who beat 4th seed Ben Mitchell 63 62 46 46 61.
Thompson is currently ranked 318 and has won two futures titles this
year. Meanwhile in the women's section it was victory for a much more
familiar Casey Dellacqua. Dellacqua recovered from a set down to
easily beat Arina Rodinova 57 61 60. Dellacqua's win follows two
successive Tournament wins at Bendingo in ITF $50,000 events. The 28
year old has had a ranking high of 39 (currently ranked 141) and
reach the 4th round of the Australian open back in 2008. In an
interview with smh.com.au Dellacqua said her 2014 plan is to get into
the top 100 again and automatically qualify for the other three grand
slams.
