Evans battles to his first ever ATP Tour semi final

Dan Evans

Dan Evans has become the first British man apart from Andy Murray to make a ATP Tour semi final since 2011. Playing third seed Philipp Kohlschreiber. In the First set Evans broke Kohlschreiber in the fifth game to take a 4-2 lead. This break was essential for Evans as it gave him enough of the margin to edge his way to take the first set 64.

Unfortunately the momentum gained from the first set by Evans got wiped away as world number 27 Kohlschreiber charged to a 4-1 lead in the second set. This then lead to the German easily taking it it 6-2. During the second set Evans couldn't get a break point against the German's serve.

Going in to third set the tides were set to change yet again with Evans winning four straight points in the first game to break Kohlschreibers serve. At 3-1 up the Briton faced two break points for it to go back on serve but Kohlschreiber was unable to convert any of them. With Evans holding his ground the final set went on serve until he served it out with his third match point.

This will now be Dan Evans first ever ATP Tour semi final. In the next round he will play Tommy Haas or Andrey Kuznetsov. He was originally defeated in the qualifying stages at the tournament but got a lucky loser spot in to the main draw. It can be safe to say that Zagreb is now Evans new favourite place.
