The first event of the women's us open series is the 2013 Bank of West Classic. Unfortunately there are only two of the top 20 women in this WTA premier tournament (Redwanska and Former US Open champion Sam Stosur. The tournament has been hit with four withdraws from Marion Bartoli, Kirsten Flipkens, Maria Sharapova and Sabine Lisicki due to various injury related issues. Radwanska faces a potential second round meet with Franchesca Schivone which could be a interesting match if Schivone is able to find that good form she does has which has alluded her for a large part of the season so far. Third seed Dominika Cibulkova could also be a strong contented for the title with 5 of her 7 career WTA finals being on hardcovers.

2013 Baku Cup

Seeds:-
  1. Bojana Jovanovski
  2. Donna Vekić

  4. Alexandra Cadanțu
  1. Karolína Plíšková
  2. Polona Hercog
  3. Elina Svitolina
  4. Vesna Dolonc
Over in Azerbaijan the other lower level tournament this week is the Baku Cup. Serbian Bojana Jovanovski is the number one seen followed by teen sensation Donna Vekic. This tournament is a golden opportunity for some younger ranked players (Jabeur, Gavrilova, krunic and the pliskova sisters) on the tour to get some vital ranking points. Personally I would expect the title to more likely go Vekic's way as supposed to Jovanoski despite Vekic's disappointing first round loss at Wimbledon. Jovanoski has a win loos this season of 12-16 compared to 16-8 for Vekic who many pundits are tipping her to be a top 20/10 in the near future.
