US Open qualifiers decided

The qualifiers has now been decided for the US open and there is joy for the British. Talented Dan Evans battled his way against Adrián Menéndez-Maceiras 67 64 62. The brit who has always shown such great potential in the past but never materialsed in the upper levels of the ATP tour. However this is happilly turning around following making the finals of his two previous Chalenger events and now qualifying to the main draw. Evans told BBC sport after his win:-"I'm pretty proud of my efforts, not just here but I've been [in North America] now nearly six weeks, so to lose first round then final, final and to qualify is pretty good," he said. "I'd never been in the last round of qualifying before but I knew I was better than the guy - it was just getting it out there. I should have really won the first set but I'm pretty happy with how I came back and in the end it was pretty straightforward.
"It was always in me but it was just putting it all together and I'm pretty proud of that. I need to just carry on and hopefully I'll get a decent draw in the main draw and try to win a few matches."

Unfourtnately there wasnt joy for the other Brit James Ward who lost 36 63 46 to Indian sixth seed Somdev Devvarman. Other players that has qualified includes the young talented 18 year old Nick Kyrgios, Ivo Karlovic and only just one American which was Donald Yound. Here is a full list of qualifiers:-

Over in the Womens qualifying and British hopes rested on Elana Baltachas shoulders but unfourtnately she didn't make it. She was beaten at the final stage by Maria Sharapovas Wimbledon conquerror Michelle Larcher de Brito 46 75 61 in a 2 hour and 31 minuite match. There was better news for the Americans in the womens with a trio qualifying (Grace Min, Victoria Duval andCoco Vandeweghe) who produced imprssive results during qualifying including Duvals stright sets win over 4^th seed Teliana Pereira in the first round and Grace Mins 64 61 win over Andrea Hlaváčková in the final round.
