Today marks the
start of qualifying for next weeks US Open and already the women's
top seed Shahar Peer has fallen. The former world number 11 who
recently revelled that she was tempted to quit the sport hasn't had
the most successful season but had recently won the Suzhou 125K
tournament, her first win since 2009. Unfortunately today wasn't her
day and she lost 46 67 to Russia's Ksenia Pervak. There has been
better results for third seed Hlavackova and 27th seed Dellacqua who
won their matches in straight sets.
Meanwhile in the
mens draw, Britians James Ward easily moved to the next round with a
commutable 63 61 win over Jonathan Eysseric. Also enjoying straight
sets win was Indian 6th seed Devvarman (64 63 against Brazil's De
Paula) and Americans Kuznetsov (62 41r against Ukrainian Sergeyev).
However it was bad news for Australia's Matthew Ebden who lost 16 64
26 to Ukrainian Oleksandr Nedovyeson.
There is a live stream for qualifying but it currently is not working - http://www.usopen.org/en_US/interactive/video/live.html?promo=subnav
