Roger Federer
edged his way into the final at Brisbane after a mid match blip
against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. Federer who recently formed a
new partnership with childhood hero Stefan Edberg sailed through the
first set in under 30 minuets, taking it 63. Things were going
accordingly for the Federer camp however the world 34 had other ideas
by putting up mighty resistance in the second set and eventually
winning the tie break 7-3. The mighty Swiss player reacted to this by
charging on in the final set to generate solid 63 win in it.
Up next is the 32 year
old former world number 1 (2001) Lleyton Hewitt who had
encouraging three set win over second seed Kei Nishikori.
Going in to the match Hewitt had a 1-0 head to head lead (2011
Wimbledon) but it was the world number 17 Nishikori who took the
first set. At 5-5 Hewitt was leading 40-0 but the second seed battled
back to break him and further more take the set 75. Hewitt was
however not to be denied as her fought hard in the second set to take
it 64 and then opened up a 3-0 lead in the final set to enable him
enough of a margin to take the match. The final scoreline was 5-7 6-4
6-3.
Going into the final
Federer has a 18-8 head to head lead over the Australian. Highlights
of Hewitt's and Federer's Semi final are below (I’m afraid I
couldn't find a English version for Federer's video):-
