Serena remains supreme down under

Serena Williams endured a hard close two setter match against world number two Victoria Azarenka. The first set got off to a tentative start but at 3-3 Azarenka double faulted wehich cost her the game and eventually the set which Williams took 64. In the second set Serena got off to a fantastic start taking a demanding 2-0 lead and the title seemed to be inevitability hers. Azarenka however displayed fantastic defensive play and shots by producing some of her best tennis, leading to her taking the next four games. Williams now trailing 2-4 did what true champions do and clawed her way back to level it once more 4-4. Both players were producing high quality tennis in the second set but a average game at 5-5 lead to Williams breaking Azarenka once more and then going on to win yet another title. This is now her forth consecutive tournament win. March Statistics for the game are below:-

Elsewhere around the world the ASB classic title went to Anna Invanovic following her 6-2 5-7 6-4 over the mighty Venus Williams. Williams did however put up a titanic fight back after coming 26 35 down to take the second set. This wasn't however enough and Ivanovic broke straight away in the third set on hewr way to the title. Meanwhile in China Li Na defended her title at the Shenzhen Open with a 64 75 win over Peng Shuai.
