Sharapova shines in Paris

Maria Sharapova looked extremely impressive in her 60 61 demolition of Daniela Hantchova. In the first round Sharapova was invincible by taking the first set to love. Hantuchova was quite tentative at the start of the match, by producing a double fault to loose her the first game. Sharapova sense this and took advantage of it by racing to 60 in the first set. In the first set sharapova produced 12 winners (against Hantuchova's 2), 100% break points won and 6 aces. In the second set there were glimmers of Hantuchova finally producing the talent she truly have but was unabled to string up enough of them points together to troble the top seed. The second set was a lot more closer than the scoreline suggested but Sharapova won every single key point in the match. Hantuchova did manage to generate 8 break points opportunities during the match but Sharapova was just a brick wall that couldn't be broken down today. The full match summary is below:-

Elsewhere unseeded defending champion Mona Barthel lost in a three set match lasting nearly two hours. Facing 8th seed Kirsten Flipkens the German went out 63 46 62. Also joining Barthel on the way out is 5th seed Roberta Vinci. Vinci suffered a disappointing 36 60 57 lost to Ukraine's Elina Svitolina. This is now Vinci's fourth consecutive first round defeat in a tournament this year. Not a good start to the year for the world number 14.
