In
Sydney there was a shock loss on day two at the Apia
International. Top seed Agnieszka
Radwanska suffered a remarkable 57 26
defeat to Bethanie Mattek-sands. Radwanska
who is suffering from some sort of shoulder injury lost the straight
sets match in just 92 minuets making her the first defending
champion at the tournament to lose her first match in 16 years. In a
post match Interview, Radwanska didn't seem too concern by her lost,
saying (quoting sky sports) :-
"I
really had a lot of good matches last week. It's not like I'm playing
bad. I'm not worried about that. I just think not my day (and)...
sometimes you have to lose.
"I think every week is different story.
You start over and over again.
"Every tournament isn't the same thing. You're not winning every week every match. Normally you just to have to start again, not really think what was happening in the last week."

Radwanska
wasn't the only seed to lose today. 6th
seed Caroline
Wozniacki lost
a close two set encounter against Lucie
Safarova
46 67 (7-9). It wasn’t all bad news for seeded players today
however with Petra
Kvitova
producing an impressive 61 60 demolition of Christine McHale. In the
first set alone the Czech produced 14 winners and 3 aces. Other seeds
who made it to the next stage was Sara
Errani who
beat Lauren Davis 75 62 and Angelique Kerber
who beat Kaia
Kanepi
63 64.
At
the Hobart
International
things are still in the early stages but one played has already
booked herself into the Quarter finals. Alison
Riske
endured a hard three set win over home favourite Casey Dellacqua,
eventually winning 75 46 63. There was still reason for the home
crowd to celebrate on Tuesday however when Storm
Saunders
beat Peng
Shuai
62 62.
