Fresh from the joys of their Davis Cup success. There was yet another
success story for British men's tennis. Dan Evans reached the
second round at the ATP Zagreb tournament after a solid 63 61 win
over world 106 Jan Hajek. Evans reached the main draw via a lucky
loser spot and will face qualifier Michael Berrer.
Berrer battled to a three sets win over the extremely talented
youngster Borna Coric yesterday. So far this year Evans has qualified
for the main draw in Doha after winning three qualifying rounds but
lost in the second round of qualifying for the Australian Open.
Elsewhere
at the tournament 8th
seed Lukas Rosol suffered a disappointing 36 67 loss against Israel's
Dudi Sela. 2008 champion Sergiy Stakhovsky also went out. Stakhovsky
(aka the man who beat Federer in Wimbledon last year) lost a close
two set's match to Andrey Kuznetsov. The final scoreline was 46 67
(8-10). Finally Andrey Golubev has to fight in to the next round
after a battle with 2005 French Open quarter finalist Victor Hănescu.
In the two hours and 22 minuets match. Golubev saved 8 out of the 10
break points he faced. The final score was 76 46 76.
